Hem the Fabric for Your Simple Pouch

๐Ÿชก Step 1: Hem the Fabric for Your Simple Pouch

Letโ€™s get started with the Sewing a Simple Pouch Tutorial by preparing your fabric pieces.

Start by taking your 8″ x 4ยฝ” piece and hemming one of the long edges.
Then, hem one edge on each of your 8″ x 8″ fabric squares.

Set your sewing machine to a straight stitch I used a 90/14 needle, which is perfect for medium-weight cotton fabric.

Sew a neat straight hem along each edge. This step prevents fraying and gives your project a clean, professional finish.

If youโ€™re following along with this Sewing a Simple Pouch Tutorial, youโ€™ll notice that these hems not only tidy up the raw edges but also help your pouch hold its shape beautifully once assembled.

Assemble the Sewing a Simple Pouch Layers

โœ‚๏ธ Step 2: Assemble the Sewing a Simple Pouch Layers

Now itโ€™s time to start assembling your fabric pieces for the Sewing a Simple Pouch project.

Lay one 8″ x 8″ piece flat on your work surface, right side facing up.
Place the 8″ x 4ยฝ” hemmed piece on top, aligning the bottom edges.
Then, add the second 8″ x 8″ piece on top, right side facing down.

Youโ€™ll notice a small overhang at the top thatโ€™s intentional! It forms the opening that allows your mask to slide in and out easily.

Once everything is aligned, pin or clip all the way around the edges to hold your layers securely. These simple steps bring your Sewing a Simple Pouch together neatly and prepare it for stitching.

Overlock the Edges for Sewing a Simple Pouch

๐Ÿงท Step 3: Overlock the Edges for Sewing a Simple Pouch

If youโ€™re following along with this Sewing a Simple Pouch tutorial, this step will give your project strong, professional-looking finished edges.

If youโ€™re using a Baby Lock Soprano , select stitch 15 on your machine this is an overlocking or overcast stitch. My machine prompted me to use the G foot, which includes a handy guide that helps keep the fabric perfectly aligned as you sew.

Feed your fabric along the guide and stitch all the way around the pouch no need to leave a gap. The overcast stitch secures and seals the edges beautifully.

For extra durability, go over the inside seams with a straight stitch as well. This reinforces your Sewing a Simple Pouch, ensuring it holds up through daily use and keeps its shape perfectly.

Turn and Press Your Sewing a Simple Pouch

๐Ÿ”„ Step 4: Turn and Press Your Sewing a Simple Pouch

Once youโ€™ve finished stitching, turn your Sewing a Simple Pouch right side out.
Use a turning tool or your fingers to gently push out the corners.

Next, give your pouch a good press with your iron this step helps it keep its shape and gives it a polished, professional look.

Store Your Mask in Style

๐Ÿ˜ Step 5: Store Your Mask in Style

Thatโ€™s it your Simple Pouch is now complete and ready to use!

Simply slip your face mask inside, and youโ€™ll never have to worry about it being loose or misplaced in your bag again. The pouch keeps your mask protected, clean, and easy to access whenever you need it.

This cute little pouch is not only practical but also adds a touch of style to your everyday essentials. It keeps everything tidy, hygienic, and easy to find. Plus, it makes a thoughtful, handmade gift for friends or family quick to make, versatile, and incredibly useful for anyone who carries a mask daily.

Heart Placemat Tutorial: Sew a Lovely Gift for Your Loved Ones

by Faodail Creation Sewing and Quilting – Sewing and Quilting Tutorials

Learn how to sew a heart-shaped placemat with this easy and fun tutorial. This DIY project is perfect for Valentine’s Day or any occasion to show your love. Follow the step-by-step instructions and make a lovely gift for your loved ones

What you need to make one Valentines Heart Placemat

One 5″ x 5″ Pink Square

One 5″ x 5″ White Square

Two 4 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ pink squares

Four 2″ x 2″ white squares

Two 2 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ white strips

Two 4″ x 12 1/4″ in white

14 1/4 ” x 17 1/4″ for batting

14 1/4 ” x 17 1/4″ for backing fabric

60″ x 2 1/2 ” for binding one placemat

First i’m going to start you off with sewing the half square triangles for sewing a valentines heart placemat. Take one 5″ white square and place on top of a pink 5″ square. Mark a line from corner to corner, then next to the center mark you are going to make one on either side of this line quarter inch away

You will sew along the left side line and the right hand line joining the pink square and the white square together. Once they are sewn cut along the center line to reveal two half square triangles.

Cut 2 pink 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 ” blocks and 4 white 2″ x 2″ blocks. Place one 2″ square on each of the two sides on a 4 1/2 ” pink square. Draw a line down the centers of each white square. You are basically replacing the corners of the pink square with white ones. Sew down the lines that you have marked

cut each white square off at 1/4 inch to remove bulk and open out to reveal the new corner.

You now have a heart, sew the top two blocks together, then the bottom two

Then join up the two rows, you now have a block that is 8 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ this is the time that we can now start to build out the size we want for a place mat. At the top and bottom of the heart cut out two sections of fabric that are 2 1/2 x 8 1/2. sew them onto the heart and press.

Lets build out the side panels, cut two 4″ x 12 1/4″ in white. The finished size of this placemat will be 12 1/4 ” tall by 15 1/4″ wide you can make it bigger or smaller by making these panels bigger or smaller.

cut a section of batting bigger than the top of the placemat. I like to go 2″ bigger. Place all the section together like a quilt sandwich. Top pieced section first then batting then backing fabric. Free motion all the pieces together. Once quilted, cut away the excess of the batting and backing so it all lines up to the pieced heart section. Bind the placemat, this will take one 60″ x 2 1/2 ” I like to sew with the machine the binding onto the front then hand stitch onto the back.
