For this tutorial I’m sewing on my Baby Lock Soprano.
My machine settings are simple:
- Standard straight stitch
- Stitch length increased to 3.0
- J Foot installed
- Polyester thread in both the needle and bobbin
- Size 90/14 Microtex needle
One feature I highly recommend using is the Pivot Function.
When activated, lifting the presser foot automatically raises the foot while keeping the needle in the fabric. This makes turning corners much easier and helps maintain accurate seam allowances.

If your sewing machine has a free arm, now is the perfect time to use it.
