DIY sewing project

Sewing doggy poop bag

by Faodail Creation Sewing and Quilting – Sewing and Quilting Tutorials

A practical and eco-friendly project that involves sewing a small pouch with a zipper and an eyelet to store and dispense dog waste bags.

What you’ll need to sew this project:

One 6″ x 6″ external fabric

One 6″ x ” 6 internal fabric

One 6″ x 6″ medium weight fusible stablizer

one zipper cut to 5 1/4″

(measure from top of zipper down, as i place tabs on the bottom)

1″ x 2″ fabric for tab

5″ x 1 1/2″ fabric for binding

11 mm sized grommet

1 key ring holder

Firstly fix the fusible to the manufactures directions to the external section of the fabric.

cut zipper measuring from the top of the zipper down to 5 1/4″

Place the tab on to the fabric, sandwiching the two sections right side together. Sew the raw edge a quarter of an inch

flip tabs over the the right ride and top stitch. The cut bottom tab to the length of the 6″ square

Place zipper right sides down to the external fabric. Place the internal fabric right side on top of the zipper.

sew zipper into place, flip the lining section back. Make sure to straighten everything out nice and flat before top stitching the zip in place.

You may need to watch the video for the next part. Turn in half the external fabric so the right side of the fabric meets the zipper and pin or clip into place. Take the external section of the fabric and flip to the other side of the zipper. Sew into place.

Undo zip and turn right sides out. Finger press everything down. You may struggle to sew the top stitching all the way day if so just go as far as you can. Keep the pouch in side out as you do this as it is easier.

Working from the interior section fold pouch in half, and mark a centre point. Meet the central part of the zipper tab and sew just under 1/4 inch holding everything into place.

Place binding on right rides together sew quarter of an inch into place

Flip binding over and top stitch down

box out the bottom corners half and inch, marking a line and sewing on the internal section of the fabric

stitch the top of the bag into place so this keeps the lining and external fabrics from shifting.

I marked with a friction pen about 1 half inches from the centre down. Cut a small circle to place the grommet into.

place the grommet into the hole and use the tool provided with your kit to fix into place.

turn bag right sides out, zip the zipper all the way up and fold in the top sides about half inch.

Pull zipper down again and sew into place.

Its best to take the bags off the roll and fill they come out easier.
