always make sure your sipper extends past your project
STEP ONE
Place your trim notion on top on the outer layer 3″ x 5″ section.
STEP 2
Place Outer Fabric 2 1/2″ x 5″ on top of the layers right sides down. Clip into place with a wonderclip – (Affiliate Link https://amzn.to/3fGkcSz )
STEP 3
Sewing all the layers into place, making sure everything is stitched into place with your sewing machine. Sewing machine used in this tutorial is Babylock Soprano https://babylock.com/machines/sewing/soprano
STEP FOUR
Remove excess trim, Cut off 1 1/2 inch from the top of the pouch. This is where we will be inserting the zipper. Do this for the Outer layer and the inside lining piece.
STEP FIVE
Lets prepare the sections for the zipper, Take your outer section right side up. Place zipper right side down then place the lining section right side down. So you sandwich everyone in place and secure with wonder clips.
Sew a zipper on the first section, change your foot on your sewing machine to a zipper foot. It will make things easier. I always use a micro tex needle for cotton fabric in 90 / 14 (Affiliate Link) https://amzn.to/2CblyH3
Fold the sections back and press in place. So now you have an outer layer and a lining layer.
Repeat for the top section of the zipper
STEP SEVEN
Switch back to your regular sewing foot. Make the tab with your 2″ x 4″ section. This is easier if you have an iron. (Affliate Link) https://amzn.to/30E9ZS1
Fold in half so you have a piece that measures 1″ x 5″. This creates a guide line down the centre. Open back up and press the two section to the centre crease
Now fold again, enclosing all the raw seams and stitch in place. When ever I create tabs I love using Sulky Holographic threads (Affiliate Link https://amzn.to/30CoZQz ) This sewing thread always gets placed in a separate thread stand (Affiliate Link https://amzn.to/3ijsUHW next to my sewing machine.
Top stitch everything closed
STEP EIGHT
Lets create the pouch. What you show have left remaining is your top section with the lining attached to the back. Two 5″ x 5″ sections place these one on top of the other wrong sides facing. You tab should be folded over with your key ring resesting inside and a wonderclip holding in place.
Open zipper half way, IMPORTANT step. FYI I purchase all my zipper right here (Affiliate link) https://amzn.to/3iktdCm
Place the 2 5″ x 5″ sections on top of the front section. What ever is facing the front section of your pouch will become the back piece. Make sure your lining piece is now looking at you.
Pace your tab between the layers with hoop on the inside, wonderclip it all into place. Refer to picture to double check your work. KEEP KEY RING AWAY FROM THE SEWING PATH
Now remember with the zipper open sew all the way around the pouch. Make sure your metal key ring is not in the way of the sewing needle!!!
Now cut away the zipper
What you are now looking at is the inside of your pouch. You need to push everything through the zipper opening to the right side.
Pull the Zipper back and opening it out. Pull the whole project through the opening.
Press the bag flat, its now complete and ready for you to enjoy!
